Waste acceptance
The typical waste types imported to Ekokem are pesticides, PCB
contaminated material and other organic hazardous waste including
highly chlorinated materials. There are some limitations for the
materials acceptable for treatment at Ekokem. Radioactive materials
and explosives are not accepted for treatment. Please, feel free to
contact
us for discussing the possible acceptance of your waste for
treatment.
Regulations and licences
Ekokem is licensed to import hazardous waste for treatment
provided the importation complies with national and international
regulations, in particular the Basel Convention on the
Transboundary Movements of Hazardous Wastes and their Disposal,
1989, and the European Community Council Regulation (EC) No
1013/2006.
In practice this means that following acceptance by Ekokem of
the suitability of the materials for treatment, all transboundary
movements of hazardous waste need to be consented to by the
competent authorities of the import, export and transit countries.
All movements will be reported to the competent authorities in
accordance with the abovementioned regulations.
Packaging and transport
When transporting hazardous waste for treatment, compliance with
national and international regulations is essential.
Transportation by road must be in accordance with the local
transport regulations and the Europeans Agreement concerning the
international carriage of dangerous goods by road (ADR). When
transporting by sea, the requirements of the International Maritime
Dangerous Goods code (IMDG) apply. All drums, containers aor other
packaging material must be UN-approved.
