To ensure the effectiveness of its operations in respect of safety and economy and to guarantee customers and the public in general the highest standards of environmental protection, Ekokem has designed a quality and environmental system.

Operating procedures fulfil the requirements of Quality Management ISO 9001, Environmental Management ISO 14001 and OHSAS 18001 health and safety standards. Ekokem has been externally assessed against these standards, and in 1994 the certificates were issued by the Finnish Standards Association (SFS).

Ekokem's quality and environmental system is based not only on ISO 9001:2000 and ISO 14001:2004 but also on ISO 17025 (Laboratory accreditation), the International Chamber of Commerce Sustainable Development and the Chemical Industry's Responsible Care programmes.

In 1996 Ekokem expanded its environmental management system at its main site in Riihimäki to meet the demands set by the European Community's Eco-Management and Audit Scheme (EMAS).
