Environmental monitoring - carried out by independent
research institutes
Ekokem is committed to monitoring the effect of its activities
on the environment and to continuously minimize any adverse effect
of its activities on the environment. The most important sources of
information are emission measurements, reports of potential
disturbances and emergency situations and the reports based on
monitoring the environmental quality of the site's surrounding
area. The actual monitoring of the environment is carried out by
independent research institutes.
Ekokem's processes are designed to fulfill all the domestic and
international requirements and legislation. The domestic site
license, set for Ekokem's hazardous waste treatment plant in
Riihimäki, is among the strictest in the world. The emissions
monitoring system includes the following tests: measurements of
flue gas emissions levels of the incineration plants, monitoring of
the water directed into the sewer system, studies of fugitive
emissions and monitoring of workplace hygiene.
The state of the environment and any changes to it are
constantly monitored. No noteworthy changes have been observed.
