New landfills
A case- and material-specific recipe for surface and base layers
is designed and tested in every project. Our aim is to find the
most economic solution that is acceptable for authorities as well.
We always utilize client’s own available materials such as
industrial by-products and waste fractions in construction works
when possible.
Restoration
In the past all types of waste was disposed to landfills
unsorted and untreated, which makes restoration sometimes even
dangerous. The old landfills are perhaps the most difficult
remediation objects. Ekokem-Palvelu is an experienced and reliable
partner in landfill restorations, regardless if restoration is done
to improve landfill’s stability or to tackle environmental
risk. We have restored dozens of municipal and industrial
landfills.
If a landfill doesn’t meet the criteria set for
permeability, quality of leachates or emissions it must be
restored. Restoration can mean excavation and re-treatment of
waste, improvement of stability or construction of new isolation
layers. To select the right restoration procedure the site should
be known in relevant detail. Additional representative sampling of
filling is often necessary to cover lacking knowledge of
landfill’s chemical and physical parameters.
Closure
Closure of landfill includes typically reshaping the filling,
construction of surface layer and final landscaping. Ekokem-Palvelu
has restored and closed dozens of old landfills to meet the
day’s criteria. We carry out closing of landfills as
all-inclusive solutions. We utilize client’s own available
materials in surface structures to bring down the costs. We offer
our expertise and experience for realizing the best fit solution.

Treatment of leachates
Treatment of leachates on landfill premises makes often not just
sense, but is sometimes even obligatory. Contaminant concentrations
in effluent may exceed threshold limits even if waste is
pre-treated and landfill restored. Leachate must then be treated
prior to piping it i.e. to a municipal wastewater plant. Sometimes
it is justified to purify leachate completely on landfill’s
immediate vicinity in order to gain permission to pipe it directly
to nature.

inorganic hazardous wastewater, hazardous landfill leachates and
contaminated groundwater. We offer all-inclusive solutions to
